A Note from the Team

Hi, and thank you for learning with Ukiyoe Japanese.

We're a small team based in Japan. Spending time with people visiting from abroad, we kept having the same two thoughts: "if only we could share this in Japanese, their time here would be so much richer" and "there's so much more of this culture we wish we could pass on." Wanting to build a bridge for that is how this app began.

As we explored, we learned that studying Japanese usually means juggling several apps: one for kana, another for kanji, a textbook for grammar, a spreadsheet for JLPT. So we asked ourselves: could we bring it all into one place? That became the concept of Ukiyoe Japanese.

We also know firsthand how hard learning a language is. Every one of us spent years learning English as a second language at school. That's why we try to make lessons interactive and reviews easy to stick with, and why we added plenty of playful things too, so studying isn't the only way to enjoy the app.

One honest note. We're native Japanese speakers, so we take real care with the Japanese you learn here. That part, we stand behind. Our English, though, is studied rather than native. If any wording ever feels off, in the app or in this letter, please tell us. We'll fix it right away.

We can't promise anything flashy. What we can promise is that we read every message. We may not be able to reply to or act on everything, but we keep improving, and we are listening.
